Beijing College Grads Seek Bargains

From iFeng: Beijingers whose homes are being demolished pay up to ¥400 per day for people to wait for them in line for a week, plus another ¥100 if it rains, in order to have first choice when selecting new homes. Of 1000 households facing demolition, 200 are already waiting in line.

Also from iFeng: College graduates in Beijing are bargain hunting for homes after existing home prices have fallen 10% in four months. They need their parents to help with the down payment, but they will repay the loan. One student looks for a home in the cheaper Shunyi area (about 1 hr to the heart of the city by subway). One two-bedroom, over 90 sqm apartment was selling for ¥2.2 million, but he felt it was too expensive. A few months later, the price was down more than 10%, to ¥1.9 million, so he's grabbing the opportunity.
